"I started designing 45 years ago making Barbie clothes. After graduating from the Fashion Institute of Technology, I moved on to ladies' loungewear. My first quilt was in the 1970s, and after a class at the John C. Campbell Folk School in 2003 I began designing crib-sized art quilts. Rainbow-colored batiks really come alive with black or deep blue for contrast. I add movement to my designs with curved lines and also flowing free-motion stitching. Sometimes I modify a traditional design with a new twist in color, and at other times I use the rainbow colors just to 'make a picture'. I hope the children who play on my quilts, as well as the adults who view them, enjoy my ideas and are drawn into my world of color."

Specializing in handmade, machine-stitched art and queen-sized quilts. These quilts also make excellent fabric art wall hangings, using the hanging sleeve on the back. Each quilt is a unique design by the artist, Jane Hicks, an experienced quilter and graduate of Fashion Institute of Technology (NYC).

All cotton fabric (batting is 80% cotton, 20% polyester for stability), machine washable. The binding is French double fold style. These works of art are new. I design and make these in my home, a smoke- and pet-free environment.

Care: Quilts should not be dry cleaned; the chemicals will harm the colors. I do not pre-wash the batting, so it will shrink somewhat when the quilt is washed, giving it an "antique quilt" look. The quilt will get softer the more it is washed.

Q&A:
Q: Your quilting designs are beautiful. May I ask what type of quilting machine/design templates you use?
A: I do not use a quilting machine or design template at all. I create all my own quilting designs, piecing and stitching. The machine I use for sewing & quilting is my home sewing machine, a Bernina 1008. Playing with color in adapting traditional designs has been great fun. I employ a free-motion quilting technique to enhance the design. Thank you for your compliment. Jane Hicks
